Hon’ble Justice ML Mehta

Hon’ble Justice ML Mehta is a distinguished legal professional and former Judge of the Delhi High Court, with a prolific career in the Indian judiciary spanning over three decades.

Hon’ble Justice ML Mehta holds a B.Sc. from Punjab University, an M.A. and LL.B. from Delhi University, and an LL.M. from Kurukshetra University. After a brief period of private practice, they entered the Delhi Judicial Service on May 20, 1977. During their early judicial tenure, they held several key positions, including Metropolitan Magistrate, Additional Rent Controller, Commercial Civil Judge, and Joint Registrar of the Delhi High Court.

In 1996, Hon’ble Justice ML Mehta was promoted to the Delhi Higher Judicial Service. Over the following years, they presided over a wide array of complex legal matters, serving as an Additional Sessions Judge, Additional District Judge, Special Judge (TADA), and Special Judge (CBI). They also served as the Presiding Officer for both the Labour Court and the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal.

Beyond their work on the bench, Hon’ble Justice ML Mehta is a pioneering figure in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). They established the Delhi Mediation Centre at the Karkardooma Court Complex, where they served as the full-time Judge In-charge and Coordinator. As a designated trainer, they have actively imparted mediation training to lawyers and judges not only in Delhi but across the country.

Continuing their trajectory of leadership, Hon’ble Justice ML Mehta was appointed as District Judge-II in 2008. They were subsequently deputed to serve as the Principal Secretary (Law, Justice & Legislative Affairs) for the Government of NCT of Delhi from June 2009 until December 2010. In recognition of their extensive experience and exemplary service, they were elevated to the Bench of the Delhi High Court on December 3, 2010, where they served with distinction until their retirement on December 30, 2013.
